I have such fond memories of Mr. Brown and Mona. They were our chaperones in March 1977 on a trip to Italy with the Minto Boys and girls club. Mr. Brown was firm but kind. Looking back I now realise how very lucky we were to have such a great human come into our lives and facilitate a truly mind-expanding trip. He was simply amazing. Funny how he was just 12 years older than us but was always Mr. Brown. He would have only been around 28 yo. I know I am but one of truly hundreds of young people whose lives were impacted by Mr. Brown. My sincere gratitude for all he and Mona did for us so many years ago. My deepest condolences to you Mona and to all who loved him. Mary Lunney

Blessings to Mona, Meredith and Charlotte and families.... we were saddened to learn of your recent loss and send condolences.
A person of quick wit, one who enjoyed politics on the Provincial and National Level, one who enjoyed fine foods and wonderful conversation, and we still remember the winter visit to Chipman to celebrate sand, beaches and sun... and Doug's tinsel Palm Tree.... and our summer Deck Dance here in Hayesville with music from the '60's and '70's.
A great friend, and a wonderful teacher!!!

Mona, Charlotte Merideth and families our deepest condolences on Doug's passing.
Doug once imparted some wisdom to us that we would like to share. He did this when we had the honour of hosting Doug and Mona at our home. When we arrived home from work Doug was sitting on the deck looking at the pond. He smiled and then conveyed this simple wisdom to us that we will always carry in our hearts. Simple yet Profound.
" Pond Lillies open up in the morning and close in the evening."
Thank you to our Dear Friend
Love
Ken and Sandra Lester.

So sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. He was the most professional teacher I taught with. I always envied how he could get through a stress filled day and still have the straightest tie imaginable. He enjoyed his job and the students he had in his charge. Was heartened to see he had such a supportive family throughout his last months. A wonderful video tribute. I even noticed his brown shoes had a shine, even on the beach. Thinking of you, Mona as you journey through this.

I remember when Mr. Brown came to Coles Island School. The first day of class he gave us a speech about how he was there to teach and not to make friends - he said if he made friends it was usually by accident, lol. I can safely say that he made many friends during his time there! I appreciated him so much as a teacher and drama director. I have a memory of him jumping up on the desk one day when the class wasn't really paying attention, saying something like "If you won't listen to me down there maybe you'll listen to me up here!" Please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss.
