I met Peter and Joan in 2020 through Peter’s love for wildlife but specifically foxes and his concern and desire to help his little friends. He was a kind and caring man and I was fortunate to have his beautiful wife Joan as well. I will always have fond memories of him, my sincere condolences to Joan and his family.

Dear Joan,
We were very sadden to hear of Peter's passing. Through Nancy, we were aware of his health issues and how difficult those were for both of you. Saying good-bye for the last time would have required a lot of bravery and love on both your parts. We hope that your warmest memories together will give you comfort as you move on with Peter in your heart.

Dear Joan and Zoey
We are so very sorry for your loss of Peter.
Peter was an amazing kind and fun-loving friend, and we feel so fortunate to have had him in our lives.
He was always there to help no matter what it was from helping to make pot pies, to building our hot tub house and many more things we could mention.
His love and caring for all animals, both domestic and wild, feathered friends and even foxes, were all fed and looked after. He even fed a seagull nicknamed Jonathon with a muffin every morning! His love for dog’s, even those that needed constant medical attention, was truly heart-warming as his love and care knew no boundaries.
Peter will be truly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him, he will always have a special place in our hearts, and we will always treasure the wonderful memories we have.
Our very sincere condolences to You and Your Family, Love and Hugs Sonja and Andrew xx

I am so looking forward to seeing you both and it will be so nice to reminisce over happier times. I am counting the days now.

Wayne and I first met you both while visiting the island in 2008. Joan offered us the kayaks and then treated us to a cold beverage on the back deck. Over the years and subsequent visits, there was always an invitation for supper which meant a comfortable evening filled with Peter's unique humor and Bailey's antics. We can still see Bailey begging Peter for carrots. Later at our cottage , we were so very content, stuffed with Joan's home cooking (much appreciated in the middle of a long vacation) and the pleasure of having spent time with you both. From the first time we met, we saw the love and friendship between you and cannot imaging your grief and loss. Denise Levesque and Wayne Powell, Winnipeg

Peter was a joy to be around. He would make his almost daily walk around the block with Zoey and stop by for coffee before
heading home. We enjoyed these conversations and his sense of humour. Even Zoey and Archie had fun playing
together.
Peter was kind, sincere and accommodating as he would help with any projects no matter how big or small. We have
special reminders in our garden with several signs he made for us-Milage signs, Swan sign, Ye Old Wood Shed sign, even a
Dorian sign where we lost a tree during the hurricane and a few others. As Joan and Peter are special friends, he will be
sadly missed. Our heartfelt condolences to you Joan. We will all miss Peter.

Thinking of you during what must be a lost and lonely time, Joan, and remembering Peter with much affection and warmth. Doug and I enjoyed our visits with him immensely, although they seem now too few and far between, and he never failed to bring a smile and fill the room with his special brand of quirky humor and a funny, always comforting kind of presence. Always welcoming, always accepting, and having the special ability to make everyone around him feel that they mattered - a rare combination of the best of human qualities. He'll be missed by many people and remembered well by all of them, and at the end of the day I guess that's what we understand as a life well lived. Condolences to you, Joan, and to all of Peter's family.

Peter was more than my close friend, he was a member of our family. Our children, Kim and Jenn called him Uncle Peter. When I told them Peter’s first name was actually Basil they would not let him forget it and continued to harass him. Peter had a full and active life surrounded by family and many friends.
Pam and I will surly miss Peter but can always find joy in our many great memories of him.
Our sincere condolences to Joan, Tracy and family. Peter was fortunate to have Joan in his life; the two of you were a perfect match.

It is, in my mind, difficult to think of Peter alone as he and Joan were so connected. Together they were welcoming and accepting of new community members who quickly became friends. Both have always been there to lend a helping hand and so generous always.
I have always been impressed by Peter’s acting career…having been an extra in The Bridge over River Kwai. Peter had many other talents and more than once helped me with home projects and was kindly restrained in his assessment of my own diy attempts. So many happy memories of this fine man and loving couple. I will miss you, Peter, but I will always remember you with a smile.

Our friend Joan.
May the warm, beautiful memories of your husband Peters love wash over you and stay with you forever.
We have been your neighbour and friends for many years in Murray Harbour. Peter was the first to greet
us on one of his many long walks around the block by our home. We were taken by his kind and gentle
spirit was so pure. We have been friends since that day. We admired Peter for his love for animals that he
and Joan adopted in their care. Also we will miss Peter and thankful he is resting in peace.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank my loving father for being so very, very special to me. I cherished every moment that we spent together. My heart is heavy, and, I already miss you terribly.
Unfortunately, this dreadful pandemic, and, our geographical distance kept us apart from two of our annual visits; however, I was literally blessed to have spent two wonderful weeks with you in September.
You always provided exceptional knowledge, expert advice, and, had a natural talent to always know what to say. You were kind, loving, loyal, selfless, giving, and, always went out of your way to help others.
Our walks and bicycle rides allowed us time to chat about family, the latest news headlines, current events, gardening, our love of nature and animals, The Tottenham Soccer Club, and, your literally dreadful choice of hockey teams - The Toronto Maple Leafs, (I cheer for The Montreal Canadiens).
I will love you forever, and, I will eternally remain your proud and loving daughter. You were "The Greatest Father in The History of The Universe"!!!!!!!
Love Always, xxoo
Tracey
P.S. Joan, I know that you are heart broken. As your daughter, I will always be here for you!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning Aunt Joan
Sending love and hugs to you today. My heart is saddened by the loss of a beautiful loving man, your best friend, soul mate, husband and our Uncle Peter. I have so many loving and warm memories of him that make me smile and bring me comfort when I cry. I know you have the same. The Funston’s were blessed with many years of him in our lives. Dad may not say much but I know how he feels about his best friend and kindred spirit. Dad and Peter had that special connection. They were brothers from different mothers :) Peter would light up a room with his presence. I loved his hugs and sitting with him as a little girl. I was fascinated by the way he spoke. I thought it was so cool and there was no one else like him. And his laugh, well that was infectious! One thing I know in my heart, he loved Life and You. He lived his life to the fullest and with passion. He was blessed to share it with you. I loved when he’d say something without a filter ;) and you’d give him your stern look and say “Peter”! Would always make us laugh. Our time with you guys in PEI will always be one of the most cherished memories I have in my adult life. I was able to see him with my boy as he was with me as a child. That will always be treasured. It gives me comfort that we got to see him on Thanksgiving to tell him we loved him. I’m so grateful for that moment. Thank you ❤️
We love you Aunt Joan and I’m so glad to know you have so many around you who love and support you through this difficult time. We are always here when you need us.
Love you both XO

Thank you Kim❤️. We are so fortunate to have so many wonderful memories. I was looking at those pictures of your PEI trip the other day. There was one picture of Holden giving Peter one of those jellybeans to eat…I can’t remember the name of the game now, but at least Peter didn’t need the bucket.
