It is hard to put into words what Alex meant to me or what he even taught me. He was quiet, worked hard and devoted his time to the church. He loved all his family- especially ones that sent pictures. Many of my earliest childhood memories included him. He would pick me up from kindergarten and we would stop at the COOP in Vernon River. I spent a lot time sitting with him in the tractor as he bailed silage. I felt like I was his little side kick. From playing in his work shop, helping to clean the church, drives to Vernon River/Montague (with no music playing), walks in the community, visits to Vernon’s house and so many more pick ups from other activities- we clocked a lot of hours together. He taught many of us how to play cards and he was the best at counting at crib. Many of my days involved biking to his house, playing cards, eating cookies and then staying for supper. And then it would be too late to bike home so he would drive me. If I did beat him at rummy, he often treated me to a drive to Busters (and sometimes Pippy’s) to get some candy. During the drive he allowed me to steer and a few times, I convinced him to let me drive down our laneway.
He was such a huge part of my life and I am so lucky to have all of that time with him.

So very sad that we could not get back to PEI to say our goodbyes in person and be with the rest of the family today and tomorrow but very grateful of the zoom calls that my Mom Marie has organized during COVID and the one Martha did the night he passed away.
Uncle Alex was a wonderful man and a huge part of my life growing up in Earnscliffe. I will miss our visits! Love you Uncle Alex!! Xoxo

I first met Alec at my brother's cottage when he was helping Gerry put the roof truses on and windows into the garage. After being introduced and watching him assist and instruct Gerry about certain carpentry niceties I immediately knew I had met a sincere, humble and wise gentleman. My queries to Alec were answered with wisdom and a knowledgable explanation.
At the end of the day, as Alec was leaving , a simple "Thank You" from Gerry was all that was required. Then, my brother turned to me and said "There goes a good man". I readily agreed.
Over the years when I would be at St. Joachim's for mass Alex always acknowledge my presence with a nod and his unforgettable smile.
Sincere sympathy on Alec's passing.
