I can't believe it was only 3 years that we lived with Mike, Sally, Pip and Nick... it seemed much longer for a young girl. Mike was a loving and fun man, with a ready smile and kind, guiding hand... for 6 kids shared between 2 Dads! I remember those years with fondness. Ruth Anne Chisholm-Davin

In the late 1960’s Mike lived in Isle Perrot, Quebec, near Montreal. For a time Mike, along with Sally, Peter and Nick, lived with me and my three, Inga Ruth and Joe. During that roughly three year period, he met Carol. Eventually Carol and her boys moved in as, as my family and I and moved out.
But during the time together the combined family of eight had some good times. The unusual arrangement lead to a newspaper article that led to us being invited to a network TV program, filmed in New York. One photo below was taken somewhere in New York, the other was a dress-up day for scouts and brownies.
Mike called me a few days before he died. We will miss him.

I met Mike 10+ years ago when I moved into the neighbourhood on Keppoch Road in Stratford. My morning walks with my dog were often in sync with his trip down he driveway to the mailbox to pick up his copy of The Guardian so we would often cross paths and exchange greetings. The same thing would happen on many afternoons in the warmer weather when he was taking his daily walks with his trademark walking stick and I'd be gardening or doing lawnwork. He always had a warm remark and a smile, and would sometimes share a story or two about the neighbourhood or his life. We even shared a moment of shared smiles of encouragement when we were both at the Emergency Department caring for loved ones 5 or 6 years ago. I was very sad to see the "For Sale" sign on the property this fall but when our paths crossed before their move, he told me how happy he was about the new condo on the water and that a young family had bought the house. He put the "neighbour" in our neighbourhood and will be missed. My condolences. Kelly Mullaly

We were so sorry to learn of Mike’s passing. He will be greatly missed in the community. We always enjoyed our chats with him...usually at Sobeys, where we caught up on family activities, especially of Chris and Stuart who used to babysit our boys.

My condolences to Carole and all the extended Chapman family.
Mike had hired me at Holland College and was always very kind and supportive over the years. He liked to laugh and reminisce when we'd meet up at Sobeys and was always interested in how everyone was doing. So sorry for your loss.

Stuart and family, I was so sorry about Mike. Through his work at the college and with my dad, I've known him for as long as I can remember. I even worked for him in the summer many decades ago. I saw him occasionally over the years since I left the island, most recently a couple of summers ago. He always had time to talk and catch up and was always so full of life. I am just so sorry.

I was so sorry to hear about Mike. He always had a kind word and always made time to catch up every time I saw him over the years since I left the Island. He was a tremendous person and I am so sorry for everyone he has left behind, but especially his family who I know he loved dearly. My sincere condolences.

We have so many happy memories of Grandpa Mike.
He always had funny stories about brother John, like when he fell from a tree, or the one about the motorcycle.
Our visits in PEI were so fun. Isaac went through the haunted house 13 times in one visit, Mike joining on as many as he could. Mike was proud that Isaac found a secret passageway that the owner said nobody had found before. We liked skipping stones at the beach down the way. We enjoyed inside mini-golf (!) and lots of Cows ice cream and lots of time jumping waves at the beach at Twin Shores.
Mike let us stand on his forehead as a kid which we found so funny.
We loved how kind and caring Mikey was, and his great enthusiasm for everything.
We will miss him so much.
Love,
Isaac and Lewis Maddocks

I was so sad to hear of Mike’s passing. I worked for him back in the late 1980’s at the Holland College Tech Centre as a night course instructor. I was in my mid twenties at the time and he was such a natural mentor when I first met him. He made a lasting impact on me and I was so lucky to run into him numerous times over the years and he always knew me. The last time I saw him was at Sobeys and I told him I was thinking about retiring from the IT field within a year. We had a great chat. It was like we had just saw each other the previous day. He hadn’t changed a bit. I will miss him and I extend my deepest condolences to your family. Mike was a rare breed of gentleman and the world is a little less brighter without him.
