Ernie Gallant

Obituary of Ernie Gallant

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Ernest Louis Gallant of Cornwall, formerly of Miscouche, on June 27, 2024.  He was the youngest son of the late Theodore Gallant and Agnes (Arsenault) Gallant of Miscouche. He was born April 22, 1949.

He leaves to mourn his wife Jean (Hardy) Gallant of Cornwall, formerly of Rosebank; his son David Gallant and his wife, Jenny Mackey; his adored grandchildren, Elliot and Anna; his brothers, Wilfred (Eva) and Anthony (Claire), both of Miscouche and his sister-in-law Hazel MacKenzie of St. Catherines. Also survived by his numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers-in-law Vincent MacKenzie and Roger Hardy.

Ernest's greatest joys in life were his family, socializing with his coffee buddies, and playing cards with whoever would offer. He loved learning about the Island and Acadian history.  He was a lifelong learner who received his B.A. in French when he was 73 years old.  He loved to travel, especially to Europe, where he loved to learn about other cultures, languages, and of course try their food.  His source for quiet meditation and restoration were his walks through his woodlots, where he noticed every change the seasons offered.

Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford from where visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 5-7 pm. A funeral service will be held from West River United Church, Cornwall on Thursday at 1 pm. Interment in the church cemetery.
