Obituary of Phyllis Muriel Currie

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Phyllis Muriel (Long) Currie of Johnston’s River, on September 12, 2022 at her home with her husband, best friend, and love of her life, Tom and family by her side. Lovingly remembered by Tom and her cherished sons Calvin (Stephanie), Craig, and Clayton (Corinne).  Treasured grandmother of Alyson, Benjamin and Bridgette.

Born in 1959 in Tracadie Cross to Phillip and Mary Long, Phyllis was the beloved sister to Gerard (Rose) Long, Irene Long, Carol Long, Theresa (Eddie) Power, Paula (David) Hooper, Bernie (Eric) Hooper.  Daughter-in-law of Sandra Mahar and sister-in-law of Dale Mahar and Trudy (Len) Lamanna.  Special aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.  Phyllis was predeceased by parents Phillip and Mary Long, sisters Elayne (Carson) Jay, Bridget Long, brother John Long, mother and father-in-law Hilda and Ernie Currie and father-in-law Sterling Mahar.

Known to many for her laughter and advice when you sat in her hairdresser’s chair, those who knew Phyllis best also admired her for her wisdom, wit, humour, goodwill, honesty and understanding. Her greatest pride was her three sons and her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, nana, sister, and friend and she is profoundly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hillsboro Funeral Home on Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 5-8 pm.  Family flowers only. No funeral by personal request. Memorial donations may be made online to the PEI Cancer Treatment Center of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital or the Home Care Palliative Care.

The family would like to thank PEI Cancer Treatment Center, PEI Home Care Palliative Care, the staff at the QEH, and the community and friends for their support over the past few difficult months.
