A sad heartfelt goodbye to my oldest, dearest and first real friend Hugh Gough.
Hughie and I met one summer's day in 1958 in (Agincourt, Ontario) into a newly built neighbourhood two doors over from the Gough family. We would have been 9 or 10 years old then and our youthful adventures and misadventures still figure prominently in my childhood memories. We managed to stay in touch over the decades and through his brother Bruce, filling us in on all the family news. My sincere condolences to Bruce Gough and his family at this time.

Hughie lived in Ottawa for a brief period of time in the late 1980's. I was fortunate to get to know him and a nicer more genuine person would be hard to find. His knowledge of country furniture, accessories and folk art was at the top of the charts right along side his characteristics of loyalty, good humour and friendliness. A few months ago I was in touch with Hughie asking him about photographs for a book I'm writing. True to form, Hughie responded right away and was more than helpful. I will remember him fondly. Our sincerest condolences to Hughie's family and friends.

Hughie was a kind & gentle person, Always a good friend to so many. I met Hughie in the 70’s, when I lived in Hampton, PEI..
It’s sad to him him go, Hughie lived his life on his terms, and I believe he was Happy with that.
He knew antiques like no one else. He devoted his life to this pursuit. He will be missed by so many.
My sympathies to his brother Bruce, and the whole family.
God bless Hughie,
Deb Field
