Obituary of Mary Leona Byrne
Peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Saturday, January 30, 2021 the death occurred of Mary Leona Byrne (Dunn), of York, age 88 years.
Loving mother of Geraldine Parsons (Marvin) and Noreen Stymest (Anthony). Cherished grandmother of A.J. Parsons (M.J.) and Matthew Stymest and great-grandmother of Dezmen and Weston Parsons. Sister of Dorothy Power, Mick Dunn (Barb) and Tom Dunn (Joanne). Sister in law of Bernadette Dunn, Bertha Dunn, Mary Kay Dunn, Eleanor Smith and Bernice Scott. Predeceased by her husband Joseph Byrne and her siblings Frances Walsh (Gerald), Vernon Dunn, Ray Dunn, twin brother - Joe Dunn and Floss Curran (Joseph).
Mary loved baking, gardening, playing the fiddle, horse racing, bingo and a good game of cards. She was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Mary travelled to antique car shows with Joe, but her restored Volkswagen Beetle was her favourite of all. She loved dogs, and dear little "Cookie" was her pride and joy. Mary was richly blessed with an extended family and thoughtful neighbours who, with good humour, accepted her need to be "the boss".
Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford. Due to current restrictions, a private funeral mass will be held. Interment in St. Eugene's Catholic Church Cemetery, Covehead.
Memorial donations may be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation or Pat and the Elephant (Transportation Service).
