Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Katherine Beeston

Elizabeth Ann Katherine (Kathie) Beeston, 71, passed away peacefully on July 10 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown, PE. Born on December 28, 1948 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Kathie is lovingly remembered by John, her husband of 41 years; children Emily (Stephen Emeneau) and Ian (Katie Price); mother Verna Kent; brother David Kent (Brenda Boutilier); sister Lori Scott (Charlie Scott); beloved grandsons Jack and Samuel Emeneau; 16 nieces and nephews; and her cherished friends "The Girls". She was predeceased by her father Frederick Kent. Kathie was a proud native of Halifax’s North End. From the Children’s Theatre to the Armdale Chorus, she was a gifted performer throughout her childhood, although she was far too modest to say so herself. She attended Queen Elizabeth High School before graduating from The Junior College of the Sacred Heart in 1969 and Saint Mary’s University in 1971. Kathie devoted her career to teaching. She was known for always seeing the best in children, even the most challenging ones. She retired in 2005 after 34 years in the Halifax school system, most notably at Rockingstone Heights and Saint Mary’s Elementary. For the past 15 years she had been living in Ottawa, where she was a devoted member of Knox Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed exploring the city’s abundant nature, with a special fondness for walks at the Experimental Farm with her late, faithful canine companion Ozzie. Gifted with an outstanding sense of humour and generosity and compassion to spare, Kathie was exceptionally loyal to her family and friends. She had a lifelong curiosity that lead her to travel around the world, but her most treasured spot always remained her family home on Prince Edward Island. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made in Kathie’s honour to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or Knox Presbyterian’s Out of the Cold program. A Celebration of Life to follow next summer.
