Obituary of Meeuwis Ferdinandus deJonge

Fred deJonge was born on November 29, 1933 in Hoek, Zeeland, the Netherlands, son of the late Petrus and Pieternella (vanDriel) deJonge. He passed away suddenly and peacefully on March 5, 2018 in Charlottetown. Fred immigrated to southwestern Ontario in 1953. He met Diana Hardeman and they married on October 11, 1957. They farmed in St. Thomas, Ontario and later moved to PEI with their 5 children in 1979 and farmed in Millview. In his later years, Fred was an avid gardener and loved to visit with friends around the Island. The last few years of his life were spent at Andrew’s Lodge in Charlottetown where he received excellent care and developed many friendships, especially with the staff. Fred is survived by his wife of many years, Diana, and his five children: Sharon (Lammert) Wolters, Millcove; Patti (Paul) Larsen, Mt. Buchanan; Catharine (Ian) Catherall, Wendouree, Victoria, Australia; Peter (Krista) deJonge, Calgary; and Kevin (Jennifer) deJonge, Calgary. He is also remembered by sixteen grandchildren: Dirk-Lammert Wolters (Haron), Matthias (Lydia) Wolters, Katrina Wolters (Brad), Elisha (Katie) Wolters, Daniel Larsen, Micah Larsen, Petra Larsen, Matthew Catherall, Andrew Catherall, Ryan Catherall, Billy Catherall, Samantha Catherall, Nathan deJonge, Luke deJonge, Joel deJonge and Harrison deJonge. As well, he was blessed to know two great-grandchildren: Kemuel and Silas Wolters. Also left to mourn are his sister-in-law, Sjaan deJonge, and brother-in-law, Jas Koster, both of the Netherlands. Predeceased by his siblings and their spouses: Marie (Frans) Dekker, Ferdinandus (Corrie) deJonge, Briena (Piet) vanCadsand, Peter deJonge and Lineke Koster, all of the Netherlands. Resting at the Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford with visiting hours Saturday, March 10 from 5 to 8 PM. Funeral service will be held at the Stratford Chapel, Hillsboro Funeral Home on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Gideon Bible Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
