Mr Edward was so much more than just a teacher in his days at Belfast school. He was the epitome of a leader and a mentor. He showed kindness, care and concern for each student that crossed his path. He fostered a love of learning for many; myself included. In his very gentle way, he commanded respect from his students, but also gave the same to them in return. I have no doubt the loss of Mr Edward will be felt by all who knew him. We will be praying for the hearts of those with whom he was nearest and dearest. He has left a legacy in his wake, not just in his wonderful family, but through each and every student whose life he impacted and influenced. Rest in peace, Mr Edward.

Michael was a wonderful friend who was our best man at our Belfast wedding. One of his signature legacies will be The Christmas Pudding with a wonderful brown sugar sauce that he tended with care before it was spooned over his old fashioned pudding that had steamed for hours on the wood stove. The final touch was the lighting of the pudding with enough to make a wonderful blue light that thrilled us all! In summer he loved the woods and all the spring flowers. We will miss you Michael. Always steadfast and committed to projects at home and at Church. May you rest in peace! Your steadfast friends Liz & Harry

I am so sorry for Catherine's, Gethin, Cecily and Eric's loss. Mr Edward stands out as one of my most influential teachers growing up. His attention to detail was second to none. He taught us early on to double underline headings with red pen, and how and when to place arrows to emphasize an area of importance (before power point was a thing), but each arrow had to be perfectly shaped, and those double lines had to be spaced perfectly 1mm apart. We were marked according. Science class was full of great memories too of hands on experiments . It must have stuck because 37 years later I still remember. He was strict as a teacher, vice principal and principal, but we all respected him, because he did it in a way that made perfect sense when he explained it. Later after we graduated, he became a friend, and it was always a pleasure to see him and Catherine at community events and school concerts. Mike was a great neighbor, husband, father and friend, and he will be truly missed. His strong Faith in God throughout his life, assures that he is with the Lord now, and I'm sure he will help organize things in Heaven. Our sincere condolences to all his family.

My heart and prayers are with you Edwards family. Mr. Edwards will remain my most influential and treasured teacher. I still use a lot of the principles that he taught me. He was a man of grace and strong but gentle conviction. He treated each one of us as the unique individuals that we are and pushed us to do our best. He took the time to encourage us and build us up . I will never forget that!

My sincere condolences to the family on the passing of Michael. I had many opportunities to chat with and share teaching and coaching experiences with Michael.! He was the epitome of what a teacher and parent should aspire to be. He was such a warm, caring, intelligent and funny person with a quick whit! May the life long memories you all generated with him be a continuous source of comfort and joy to you all. God bless!

Oh, Mr. Edward, I am sorry to see you go.❤️ You were my gym teacher, my music teacher and an icon at Belfast Consolidated School. You were always very kind to and supportive of our family and I am happy to have had a chance to reconnect with you during the time of Mom’s illness and passing. She always spoke very highly of you and enjoyed her years teaching with you. Your positive energy and enthusiasm for life will be missed. My condolences to Catherine, Gethin, Cecily, Eric and your entire family.

Post-war, a remarkable cohort of extraordinary young men and women came of age in Charlottetown. In the 'seventies and early 'eighties we found new ways to become our best selves. We flourished in the arts, in commerce, in politics and in education. Michael Edward - head, heart and soul - was the best of us. Thanks for the flights of fancy, Michael, the wonderful conversations about God and Faith and Love and Hope, and the actual small craft flights you piloted over the Island that brough so much joy to so many.
High Flight,
By John Gillespie Magee Jr.
"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds,—and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of—wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air ....
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew—
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high un-trespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."
RIP dear friend. The world is a better place, and PEI skies bluer because you gave so much love with such grace and ease.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Mr. Edward was a kind and creative teacher who cared deeply for his family and for nature. May your many warm memories strengthen you in difficult days. Mr Edward brought so much to Belfast School, it is difficult to know where to start. He expanded the athletics program to many sports to explore the strengths and interests of different students. He led elaborate drama productions and he personally built an enriched English program that set me up for academic opportunities that I remain very grateful for. He truly valued life and shared that with his students. He will be widely treasured.

He was a favorite of mine and was such a fair teacher. He taught me phys ed among other subjects but was so fair. You didn't have to be a true athlete to still get get good marks based on effort. That has stayed with me.

A teacher who taught his students by experiences, experiments and humour. Rather than look at pictures of trees, mosses and other things found in nature he would take trips to his families wood lot and share the true experience. Teachers like that are few and far between Mr. Edward’s was one of the best. My sincere condolences to all the family as you navigate the difficult days and weeks ahead, pull strength from the special memories and stories you all share to carry you in the hard times,
