Obituary of Jonathan Paul Vandergaag

Jon passed peacefully at the Provincial Palliative Care Center, Charlottetown on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at the age of 43.

 

Cherished son of Norma (Armsworthy)  Forbes and Allan Forbes (step-dad).  Jon is also survived by his father Paul (Mary), his sister Jennifer Petryshen (Victor) and three step-brothers Daren, David and Steven Forbes and their families. Jon will be missed by his extended family, including Mike Ling (nephew-in-law) and special cousins Parker MacLeod and Cassandra Ling. Predeceased by grandparents, Robert and Ruth Armsworthy and Marjorie and Marinus Vandergaag; special aunt Judy Dobbin, cousin Denise MacLeod Ling and his feline companion "Hobbes".

 

Jon spent the past 4 years living at the Provincial Palliative Care Center. Diagnosed with kidney disease at the age of 15, he had a resiliency that defied logic; beating a multitude of major health challenges over his short life. He lived a simple life and cherished "his girls" Arti and Penny. Jon loved music and spent many hours writing lyrics, poetry and playing his guitars.  He was a member of Colonel Grey High School Band programs; and enjoyed acting in several amateur plays. The coffee dates with his "Mudder" and a few close friends were very important to him.

 

Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home from where visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 from 3-3:45pm followed by a funeral service at 4pm.

 

It was Jon's wish that donations in his memory, be made to the Provincial Palliative Care Center or the Atlantic Division of the Kidney Foundation.

 

A special thank you to all staff at PEI Dialysis Centre of the QEH, the Provincial Palliative Care Centre and Pat & the Elephant for always taking care of Jon in a loving and professional manner. Your friendship and caring for our family, as we made this journey together with Jon, will never be forgotten.
