Obituary of Jean Kathryn Matheson

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 3, 2023 at Saanich Peninsula Extended Care. 

She was born on February 20, 1935 in Port Morien, NS to Auley and Florence (Spencer) MacKenzie.  Jean was a dedicated nurse, having completed her training at the Glace Bay General Hospital School of Nursing and spending most of her career working at Sydney City Hospital.  She was a loving wife to her husband, Donald, and together they spent the majority of their married life and raised their family in Sydney and spent summers at the family cottage at Whycocomagh, NS.  Jean was an avid traveler, and in her retirement, she enjoyed travelling across Canada and the US.  For the last twelve years, Jean lived in Charlottetown, then in Victoria, BC, and had the opportunity to live close to her family and grandchildren. 

Jean was predeceased by her husband, Donald; brothers Clyde and Angus; and sister, Ethel Fisher.  She is survived by sons, Stuart (Marie), Stratford, PE, and Scott (Nancy), Victoria, BC; grandchildren, Jack, Kevin and Jane; brothers, Robert and Donald and sister, Lois Turner.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 9:30 am from the St. James Presbyterian Church (The Kirk), Charlottetown.  All are welcome.
