Obituary of Tyler John Shanahan

With a heavy heart I regret having to announce the passing of our youngest son, Tyler.

We received a call last evening telling us our son had been performing a show, and had fallen and become unresponsive.

A few short minutes later, we received a second call stating that he did not make it after the ambulance was on site.

As you all know, Tyler suffered with PAH, and ultimately succumbed to his disease on June 7th, 2024.

He was a cherished son to John and Margaret (Matheson) Shanahan and brother to Billy. Uncle to Riley and Sadie Squires (their mother Sam Squires) . Grandson of John and Anita Macdonald and Uldene MacInnis (Shanahan). Tye is fondly remembered by his special auntie Kay and his many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends and especially the Drag Community. He was a loved and devoted friend to many - his best friend Trish Kruger and he was a loving partner to Phillip Elms.

Tye had a love for drag, played a big role in Pride PEI, and always strived for inclusion and fair treatment for all within his community. He had a huge heart, and opened it fully to everyone.

He will be greatly missed by so many. Our hearts go out to those grieving alongside us; family, friends, his drag family and community, and everyone else in between.

He died during a special month to him, doing something he absolutely loved to do. That's something we can take solace in knowing.

Tomorrow is never promised. So, be there. Tell them you love them, and in the words of Tye himself -- stay fierce.

Resting at the Hillsboro Funeral Home from where visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 12 noon until 12:45 pm followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 1 pm. Interment in the Crossroads Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made online to the Trevor Project or PAH Canada.
