Obituary of Troy Drake

The family of Keenan “Troy” Drake, aged 59, of Vernon River, sadly announces his sudden passing on August 7, 2026, at his home.

 

Troy was raised in Vernon River, where he spent his early years surrounded by family, friends, and the community he loved. He owned The Meat Shoppe and later The Country Steakhouse and Lounge. His passion for his work as a meat cutter continued throughout his life.

 

Troy later moved to Ontario, where he continued working as a meat cutter and became a union head representative. Eventually, he returned home to PEI, where he was happiest among the people and places that were familiar to him.

 

Troy was a man who found joy in the simple things. He was quite the pool shark, had a passion for golf and was a lifelong hockey fan, proudly cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs. He enjoyed his regular coffee chats at Busters, where he was a familiar face and always ready for a conversation. Many will remember him for his famous beef jerky and signature dog treats.

 

Troy was known for his stubborn nature, but underneath there was an incredibly giving heart. He was always there to help his family, friends, and members of his community, often without being asked, and he never missed someone’s birthday. If someone needed something, Troy could be counted on to lend a hand, offer advice, or simply be there.

 

He had an impressive knowledge of world events and always seemed to have the best recommendations for television shows and movies. He had a particular love for his 1966 Mustang Fastback, a project that will continue to be worked on in his memory.

 

Troy will be deeply missed by his father, Wendell Drake; his mother, Marilyn Drake; his sister, Dr. Wendy Drake (Shane Toombs); his nephew like a brother, Justin Drake (Keisha Doyle); and his nephews, Jake, Samuel, and Kael MacQuarrie. He will also be lovingly remembered by his loyal dog and partner in crime, Buster.

 

Troy leaves behind many friends, family, and community members whose lives were made better by his generosity, sarcastic humour, and willingness to always lend a hand. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.

 

Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home from where visiting hours will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 12:45-1:45 pm followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm. 

 

Interment in St. Andrew’s United Church Cemetery, Vernon Bridge.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada. In Troy’s honour, his family will be establishing a yearly memorial fund towards the PEI Prosthetics Clinic.
