Obituary of Barry Keith Murphy
"Mr. Express"
In the early hours of May 24th 2026, surrounded by love and joy for a life well lived, the patriarch of our family went tenderly into the arms of our Lord and Saviour, to be reunited with his parents H. Vaughn and Elva (Jenkins) Murphy, baby brother William Earl, and many more loved ones.
Born in Cross Roads on January 22nd, 1944, forever his earthly home, he will live on here in the hearts of those he left behind. His wife Beverley (Hatton) of 58 years, his children Marianne (Claude) Gautreau, Megan (Shawn) Mitchell, Laura (Lantz) Hansen, Vaughn (Lysiane) Murphy. Cherished by his grandchildren; Madeleine (Joey Doyle), Lila (Zac Beauregard), Audrey and Molly Mitchell, Christian (Alexandra), Joseph and Seth Hansen, and the most recent light of his life Mae Murphy. He also leaves behind his two adored, great grandchildren, Henry and Eliza Hansen, and will be deeply missed by his brother Leon (Eileen) Murphy and family, as well as the entire Hatton family, who he looked on as his own. Lovingly remembered by extended family, cousins and friends.
Dad was immensely proud of his family and gave of himself in every way to show us his love. Faith was always expressed and practiced in our home, and Dad led by example. His presence was humble, prayerful, kind, genuine, and heartfelt. With every visit, family get-together or phone call, his love was evident and profound.
In addition to family and faith, Barry was a dedicated entrepreneur. For over 40 years, Mr. Express courier served the greater Charlottetown area with prompt and friendly service. He was dedicated to serving the public, always ready with a handshake, and made time for everyone.
Heartfelt thanks goes out to the nurses and staff of Unit 1 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, to Dr. Peterson, Dr. Champion, and family physician Dr. Scantlebury, for their care and compassion.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026 from 4 - 7 PM at Hillsboro Funeral Home in Stratford.
Barry's life will be celebrated at the Hillsboro Funeral Home Chapel. Please join us on Thursday, May 28th, 2026 at 2 PM. He will be laid to rest in the cemetery of Alexandra Baptist Church, following the service.
To honour this life so well lived, memorial donations may be made online to Alexandra Baptist Church Cemetery, Special Olympics PEI, or to your favourite charity.
