Wayne Gillis

Obituary of Wayne Gillis

Peacefully, at home, after a short battle with cancer, and surrounded by family. He leaves to mourn his wife, Ena (Brown), his daughters, Kelli and Lynn (Allan) McGuigan, and his precious granddaughters, Carlee, Alley, Quinn and Colby. As well as his sisters, Meryl (Robert) Cummings, Arlene (Wade) Buell, sister in law Donna (Brown) Graves and brother in law, Gordie (Francis) Brown and numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Bennett and Alma (MacPherson), siblings Bonnie Jean (Aaron) Roloson, Janet (Barry Fitzpatrick) Gillis, Blair and Carol Gillis, and in laws Gordon and Rita Brown.

Wayne took great pride in his work as a bricklayer and stone mason, but his proudest accomplishment was his family, especially his granddaughters. He was fiercely proud and fiercely protective of his girls, and they thought the world of their Papa.

Wayne grew up on a farm in Newtown and learned the value of work from a young age. He made sure to pass these traits down to his daughters. His handshake and his word were his bond. He was thoughtful, caring, strong and kind. His loss will be felt immensely.

Wayne’s family wishes to extend the most heartfelt thanks to the Integrated Palliative Care team and Island EMS.

Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home.  No visitation by request. A private graveside service will be held at St John’s Presbyterian Church, Belfast.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made online to Palliative Care or a charity of your choice are welcomed.
