Obituary of Marinus van Bysterveldt
The death peacefully occurred at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, with family present, on Monday, April 13 of Marinus (Rinus) Quirinus van Bysterveldt of Bedford, aged 98 years.
Born in Goirle, the Netherlands on November 15, 1927 to the late Cornelius and Maria Agnes (Peeters) van Bijsterveldt. Husband of the late Anna Maria (Rie) van Bysterveldt. Father of Agnes (David) McQuaid, John (Janet) Bysterveldt and daughter-in-law Paula Bysterveldt. Opa to eleven much loved grandchildren and seventeen very special great grandchildren. Also surviving is sister Adrie van den Broek; sisters-in-law Gera de Brouwer, Riet de Brouwer; brother-in-law Jan (Mien) de Brouwer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in the Netherlands. Predeceased by son Neil Bysterveldt, brothers Krijn (Magda) van Bijsterveldt, Jan (Jeanne) van Bijsterveldt; sister’s Net (Frans) Abrahams, Rie (Joseph) van Schaick; brothers-in-law Piet de Brouwer, Sjef de Brouwer, Harrie (Dini, Trees) de Brouwer, Harrie van den Broek, Janus (Bets) de Brouwer; sisters-in-law Alice (Herman) Sewuster, Nellie (Frans) Oerlemans, Truus (Toon) van den Hout, Jo (Henk) Sewuster.
Marinus and Anna Maria’s story is one of leaving home with little certainty but a great deal of courage. Through persistence and commitment, they built a life rooted in family, work and community. After living in PEI for a few years they purchased a farm in Bedford where they raised their family.
Resting at the Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford for visitation on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd in St. Bonaventure’s Church, Tracadie Cross at 10:30 a.m. The funeral Mass will be available for viewing by clicking on the Funeral Mass tab. Interment in the St. Bonaventure’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Tracadie Cross.
