The death occurred peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, following a brief illness, of George Frederick “Fred” Jenkins, beloved husband of 53 years to Evelyn (Wood).
Fred was born in Millview on Feb 8, 1942 and lived there his 84 years. Devoted father of Heather (Al MacKinnon) and Jeff (Cindy Fidler). He leaves behind 4 grandchildren - Jordan MacKinnon (Riley Hume), Tyler Jenkins, Nicole Jenkins and Hunter MacKinnon, a brother Wendell (Jean Bell), sister–in-law Marie Jenkins (Larsen), sister-in-law Bonnie Dewar (Frank) and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents George and Jennie (Lea) Jenkins, parents-in-law Edward (Etta) and Kallie Wood, brothers Gordon (Elaine) and Lloyd and special cousin Mary Tweedy (Howard).
Fred began life farming with his father and brother and drove a school bus for VRCS for 31 years. He also worked 40+ years for Pownal Sports Center where he made numerous friends.
He was a fan of the PEI Rocket and then Charlottetown Islanders and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play their many different sports as well as Al and Hunter’s stock car races. If there was a sporting event with people around, he was there. When not working or looking after the farm, he enjoyed travelling and took many trips with Evelyn, Lloyd and Marie and spent many Labour Day weekends at Living Waters in Maine. He visited every Province in Canada as well as the Yukon and many US States. He loved just driving around and was always ready and willing to go for a drive and visit people.
He leaves behind his group of friends from Busters and Tim’s.
We would like to thank the special Doctors and nurses at the QEH who cared for him while he was there as well as Dr Chan, Dr Kelly and Michelle from Wound Clinic.
