Our deepest sympathy to you, Evelyn and to all of your family on Fred's passing. We had the honor of knowing both of you during our years at Pownal rink while our kids played hockey. We fondly remember the smiles on both you and Fred's faces as you tirelessly worked to keep the rink running smoothly, no matter how busy it was there. When we think of Fred, we think of his most friendly greetings and especially the respect he showed to everyone who entered the rink; no matter how young and no matter how old. This man gave me so much down at pownal rink as a young boy, along with his wife Evelyn, Fred would allow me stay on later and Evelyn would give me free candy at the canteen, pownal minor hockey wouldn’t be what it is today without Fred and his wife Evelyn, from Terry, Joanne , and myself (Robert) Macleod our condolences and Fred will be in our hearts forever

Evelyn, So very sad to hear that Freddie went to meet the angels. I have great memories of a very dependable bus driver at Vernon River Consolidated. And then wonderful memories at the Pownal rink where he always made a point of coming to say hello. He knew my grandkids by name from hockey and never missed asking after my son and daughter.... he made a point to stay connected. Recently we enjoyed chats at the bowling alley......He will be missed! May your wonderful memories serve as a warm hug during the difficult days ahead!

To the family of Fred Jenkins, I went to Vernon River Consolidated School from Grades 3 to 8 when the school opened. Freddie was my bus driver - always a smile and a hello when you got on the bus. Years later, I seen him at Pownal Rink when I took my daughter down from Summerside to play against Pownal. Even after all the years, Freddie always called me by name with the same smile.

Fred & Evelyn were like grandparents to all the children attending Pownal Rink. It was so much more than a “job” to Fred. He and Evelyn would even go to other Maritime rinks to support Pownal teams. Everybody loved Fred, he was always willing to accommodate the needs of players / teams. Our sincere sympathy to Evelyn and all of Fred’s Family. (Linus, Brenda, Paul + Shane & Vicki)
