Mary Doyle

Obituary of Mary Doyle

It is with great love and in celebration of a life well lived that we share the passing of our dear mom, Mary Doyle in her 100th year.

Born on August 7, 1926, in Millview, Prince Edward Island, Mary was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary MacKenzie and a lifelong resident of Alberry Plains.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband James. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Allan (Wendy), Kenneth, Teresa (Curtis), Leo (Melissa), and Sheila Hogan (Terry). She will also be dearly missed by her 16 grandchildren: Darcy, Shawn, Brett, Mark, Nick, Patrick, Mariah, Conley, Jackson, Ashley, Krista, Emily, Katlin, Derek, Jack, and David, as well as 15 great-grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her treasured sister Bernadette Dunn, and sisters-in-law Doreen Doyle and Georgia MacKenzie. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Angus, John, Sister Teresa, Wilbert, Eileen and Helen as well as brothers-in-law Vernon Dunn and Norman Doyle and her sister-in-law Teresa MacKenzie.

Mary started teaching at age seventeen - ten grades in a one room school. A busy farmer’s wife, she still found time to participate in CWL, The Women’s Institute, The Quilt Guild, 4-H, The Love Program, Right to Life and volunteered with the QEH for more than twenty years. She loved going to concerts, especially at Rock Barra Retreat.

She was the heart of her family, an expert at gardening, making fudge, apple pies, quilts, grammar, and so much more. She never stood still and cherished big Sunday dinners with her family.

Mary’s family wish to thank Perrin’s Marina Villa and Atlantic Baptist Nursing Home for all their kindness and care over the past three years.

Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home, visitation Tuesday, April 7,  4–6 p.m. and a Funeral Mass at Saint Joachim’s Church, Vernon River, Wednesday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
