Obituary of Trudi Jean McAskill

Trudi Jean (Stewart) McAskill of Stratford passed away peacefully with family at her side on March 1, 2026. Trudi was the very much loved wife of longtime PEI pharmacist, the late Joseph W. “Joe” McAskill (1949-2020).

Trudi “TJ” Stewart was born in Charlottetown to Alex Stewart and Elsie (MacNeill) Stewart, who were both from Little Sands, PEI. Trudi grew up in Charlottetown where she attended Model School, Birchwood High School, Col. Gray High School and Holland College.

Trudi always had a great love for music. Her father had played guitar and Trudi, who enjoyed singing from a very young age, began playing piano when she was six. Trudi first sang in a country music band when she was only fourteen and over the years TJ and her sister Lori sang with several local pop and rock groups across the Island. In later years Trudi enjoyed singing Bluegrass with her sister, Glenda and their friend, Charlie Hansen. Trudi also sang gospel songs and songs from Scotland with her sisters in a group called, The Stewart Sisters (Saundra, Glenda, Trudi and Lori Stewart).

Trudi was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph W. “Joe” McAskill (Aug. 2020); her dear son Cameron McAskill (Dec. 2025); her parents Alex Stewart and Elsie (MacNeill) Stewart; her sister Saundra (Stewart) Emery, her brothers-in-law, Ken Emery, Jimmie McAskill, Martin McAskill and John “Jackie” McAskill; her sister-in-law Patsy McAskill Trainor; and by her special uncle, Neill MacNeill of Little Sands, PEI.

Trudi is survived by three of her four children, Stephen Comeau, Chris Comeau, Karalee McAskill and by her dear daughter-in-law, Mary Beth (Larter) McAskill and by her five grandchildren, Grace Comeau (Brandon MacPhee), Benjamin McAskill, James McAskill, Kaija Jo McAskill-McIver and Quinton McAskill-McIver. Also survived by her sisters: Glenda Johnston (Gary) of Stratford and Lori Stewart (Graham) of Cornwall, her brother, David Stewart (Nancy) of Montague and Trudi’s “sister from the heart” Melanie Johnston of Stratford. Also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law:  Belinda McAskill Montigny (Roger, deceased), Della McAskill Godkin (Heartz), Brendon McAskill (Mary), Barron McAskill (Sherlynn, deceased), Susan McAskill (Jackie, deceased) and Mary McAskill (Martin, deceased). Trudi is also survived by her friend Debbie Mutch and by her longtime special friend Gordy McCarville. Trudi will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and by her many friends and neighbours.

No visitation by personal request however a graveside service with the interment of both Trudi and her husband, Joe W. McAskill shall take place at a date to be announced at the St. Bonaventure Church Cemetery at 1295 Donaldston Rd. in Tracadie Cross, PEI.
