Obituary of Donnie Rankin

Donald “Donnie” William Rankin, age 70, of Bethel, Prince Edward Island, passed away at his lifelong home on Friday, February 13, 2026.

Donnie was the son of the late Norman and Annie Rankin. He was also predeceased by his brother, David Rankin (Sonia Jackson). Donnie lived almost his entire life on the family farm in Bethel, living in Charlottetown for a few years before moving back home after his father’s death to care for his mother. He found comfort in the quiet beauty of nature and the community he knew so well. Even after he had to stop working, he was often seen walking around the community, sometimes venturing over to “the store” and back.

Donnie worked for many years as a cartographer with Gulf Surveys in Charlottetown, where he took pride in a job well done.

An animal and nature lover at heart, Donnie found joy in simple things—spending time outdoors, tinkering, and caring for the world around him. He was a very kind man who always had a warm smile and a great sense of humour. Though private by nature, those who knew him well were touched by his gentle spirit and quiet generosity.

Donnie is lovingly remembered by his family: his niece, Katie Rankin (Sergio Shumanskyi); his nephew, Andrew Rankin and his daughter, Theresa (Taylor), and her daughter, Scarlet; his niece, Melissa Rankin (Randy Myers) and their daughters, Madison and Kamryn; the mother of his nieces and nephew, Debbie Bernard (Angus MacDonald); and many longtime friends and neighbours.

He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to be part of his life.

At this time, there will be no wake or funeral. A small graveside service will be held in the spring to lay Donnie to rest.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to all who have offered support, kindness, and prayers during this difficult time.
