Obituary of Carey Wilfred Gillis
Carey Wilfred Gillis of Melville was born on December 13, 1962, and grew up in Kilmuir. A farmer and mechanic by trade and by passion, Carey spent his life working with his hands—whether tending crops, fixing machinery, or solving problems that others couldn't. For over thirty years, he also served the community as a bus driver at Belfast Consolidated, where he became a familiar and trusted face to generations of students.
He was a devoted father to Emily Gillis, Bailey MacDonald (Bradley), and Chloe Henbest (William), and an adoring grandfather to Rhett, Alice, Lila, and Isabelle. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Whether it was a quick visit or a shared project, Carey made sure his grandkids knew they were loved.
Carey was always there when you needed him. The quickest person to pick up the phone, he was ready to help, to listen, to show up. His generosity, dependability, and strength touched countless lives.
Carey is survived by his children, their mother Elizabeth, and his grandchildren, as well as his siblings Cathy King and Chuck Gillis. He was predeceased by his brother Cressy, his mother Thelma, and his father Wilfred.
Carey Gillis will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
