My sincere condolences to Lou’s family and friends.
I met Lou on one of her trips to Alberta to visit her friend Penny when we both lived in Banff. Lou was instantly likeable, and it was immediately clear to me why they were such good friends.
I’ll always remember her grace and humour under pressure—specifically when my horse decided to bolt with Louise on her back! Despite being taken for an uncontrollable run and falling off, Lou took the 'physical and emotional' shock in stride which spoke volumes about her character. I think she forgave us both… eventually… after the sting wore off!
In 2004, I joined Lou and Penny on a trip to the national parks in Utah. The memories we made there cemented our own friendship. Though miles and years often limited our contact to Christmas cards or the occasional text, she remained a wonderful listener. She was a great support to me when my mother’s health began to fail, understanding that journey through her own experience.
I feel so fortunate to have spent a few more days with her in 2019 when my sister and I visited PEI. My sister still remembers her as 'such a sweet lady.'
To Lou, I was 'little d,' and I am so grateful to have been even a small part of her life.
