Pat’s life was full of many evolutions and changes, but throughout, her love of family was forever present. From her early life in Newfoundland, private school in Quebec, to Horton Academy in Wolfville, where she met the love of her life, Don, she grew to be the women that was so loved. After marrying, she and Don established a new life at their farm in Mt Mellick, PEI, where they raised their five children. Volunteering was also an important part of her life. She was active in 4H, Sunday School, Mikinduri Children of Hope, knitting hats for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital nursery, work with the Nifty Needlers, and 35 years at the QEH Information desk and at the Cancer Treatment Center. Don and Pat enjoyed traveling, camping and time with their growing family. When Don’s Alzheimer’s progressed, she became his full time caregiver. During this time, she also established herself as a guest speaker for Alzheimer’s conventions. She spoke to Alzheimer’s experts in North America, Europe and Australia about the challenges experienced by families, as care givers.
Later in life she loved her little apartment where family and friends could easily drop by for a tea and chat. Most of all she loved family times and treasured each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always creating opportunities for family gatherings.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at the PEI Atlantic Baptist homes for the exceptional care and love she received while residing there.
