Obituary of Shirley Anne McManus

Surrounded by the love of her family at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Shirley Anne McManus (McGuirk) of Dromore passed away on Saturday August 23, 2025 at the age of 81 years. Shirley was the last surviving member of the Henry and Stella (Kneebone) McGuirk family. Loving mother of Greg (Kathryn) and Keith "Bubba" (Christina). Grandmother of Tyson (Alyssa). Shirley was overjoyed to become a great-grandmother with the arrival of Freya. Survived by sisters-in-law Mary McGuirk, Rita McGuirk, Florence McGuirk and numerous nieces and nephews.  Besides being predeceased by her parents she is also predeceased by her brothers Gerald, Clifford, Ralph, Elmer, Ivan, Gordon, Eric, John and sisters Doris, Isabel, Bertha, Tena, Pearl, Eileen, Gladys and Rosemary. Shirley could often be found out enjoying dinners, movies and dancing with her singles group or swimming with her friends. She never was one who wanted to be sitting still. As the last surviving member, she became the matriarch to her large extended family. She would often be found bringing her famous biscuits to any and every occasion. Even recently she attended a family gathering where you could see on her face the love she had for everyone there and how much being with them meant to her. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the doctors and staff of the emergency room and Unit 8 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Everyone took such wonderful care of Shirley and who showed such kindness and compassion to her family. Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford from where visiting hours will be held on Tuesday August 26, 2025 from 4-7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday August 27, 2025 from St Patrick’s Church Fort Augustus at 10:30 am. Interment in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made online to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
