I was devastated to hear of your passing, Aunt Doreen. You were one of the most caring and kind people I have ever known, and you had such a great sense of humour mixed in as well. I can literally hear your laugh while I'm writing this. I will never forget how supportive you were to my family after Dad had a severe stroke in 1993, and also when he fell ill in 2001. I will always be thankful that Rowan and I were able to make it home for a couple of days this spring, and that I got to see your smile one last time. With love, from "Little Louis", Nancy, Rowan and Corrie.

Doreen was a big part of my childhood. Our families did many camping trips together. She saw the good in everyone and also found joy in everything. A leaky tent didn't bother her or 3 days of camping in the rain could not dampen that glass-half-full spirit of hers. Apart from camping, our families shared Saturday night card games. As I got older my trips home had to include a visit to this wonderful lady. I saw her recently in March and her positive attitude was very present as well as her concern for others. Her love of animals was unyielding. A life well lived. She will be missed. Sending my sincere condolences to Craig and Janice. Cheryl Llewellyn (Ford)

A well loved woman is Doreen. It was my privilege to know this spunky, cheerful wise woman through our BC Support Group.
Always so supportive and saw the good in everything. She so loved her family! We will miss her presence but not forget her and hope you sense her energy/spirit as she's not far, providing comfort still. I hope that is the case especially during those lonesome moments. A life well lived - love and very best from all of us in the BC Support Group. Judy Donovan Whitty, (BCSG Contact)

It's the little things you remember sometimes I guess. I remember Oma jigging around her kitchen to Mary Mac. I remember the time when I was very little and she thought I had imaginary frogs I wanted to show her and her surprise and laughter when I had two real little frogs in my hands. I remember she would always save change for me between visits in an old peanut butter jar and I would sit at the dinner table with her and roll it. She also saved interesting foreign coins and bills she thought I would like when she came across them at the bank where she worked. I remember the smell of the perfume she always wore. I remember how she sent mittens and other warm things every Christmas no matter how many we had to already have from her. Grandmothers always want to keep you warm it seems like. I remember her singing songs but with made up lyrics - mom and I must get that from her. I remember card games with Oma and Oma and other family or friends. That was always one of my favourite things, everyone playing contract rummy together and talking and laughing. A lifetime of little moments.

From childhood to the teenage years into adult hood she was there for me. Even though I moved away at a young age she was still there for me in phone calls and visits home. She and Harold stood as our witness' when John and I married, she was there with her love and hugs when I made my first trip home without him. She will live in my heart forever. Loved her so much.
