Obituary of Shirley Hughes

Peacefully and surrounded by her loving family at the Centennial Court Nursing Home, Charlottetown on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 the death occurred of Shirley Hughes (Smallwood) of Stratford, age 88 years. 

Loving mother of Terry (Peggy), Chris and Paul (Anne). Cherished grandmother of Terrilee, Lindsey, Courtney and Cassidy; great-grandchildren Bianca, Kayleigh, Kolter, Taliya and Sage. Shirley will be missed by her sisters Arlene Mamye (Charles, deceased), Marjorie Gyrus (James, deceased) and Dianne Smallwood and brothers Henry Smallwood (Nancy), Edward Smallwood, David Smallwood (Judy) and Jimmy Smallwood. Fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Sheldon and Annie (Kelly) Smallwood, beloved husband William Arthur "Billy" Hughes and siblings Ralph Smallwood and Joseph Smallwood and Janet Phelan (Billy). 

Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home from where visiting hours will be held Sunday, June 8, 2025 from 2-4 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held from Our Lady the Assumption Church on Monday at 1:30 pm.  Interment will take place at the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made online to the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
