Obituary of Joan Chisholm

Peacefully, with her son by her side, at Colville Manor, Souris on Saturday, May 31 at the age of 87 Joan Chisholm passed away.

 

Joan will be remembered by her son Alan Chisholm (Joanne), her special godson Norman Lapierre, son-in-law Billy Allen, her treasured grandchildren, Amy (Brad Kickham) Graham Chisholm, (Courtney) Emily Allen (Corey) Kathleen Allen (Sean). Nanny Joan will be dearly missed by her four little angels, Sadie, Aubrey, Mae, and Ivy, as well as by her brother-in-law, Ronald Chisholm (Anne), numerous nieces and nephews and special friends Sandra and Kay.

 

Joan was the last surviving member of her family, predeceased by her husband, David & daughter, Rae as well as her parents, Percy and Edith MacDonald, her siblings Kenneth, Daniel, Percy Jr, Reggie, Floyd, Boudine, Tony, Peter, Gert, Jeanette and Eleanor.

 

A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she loved nothing more than spending the day filling tins with cookies, brownies and fudge to send home with everyone. An avid knitter, seamstress and quilter Joan lovingly created quilts for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, a legacy of love woven into every stitch. Beyond the kitchen she could be found roaring at the TV during a hockey game or curling match.  She was a self-proclaimed “Cleaner” and expert stain remover, telling us the secret ingredient for success for stain removal was to use holy water. A lifelong devout Catholic, she served as Sacristan at St Mary’s for decades embodying faith and service. Though her tongue may have been sharp at times her warm heart and unwavering love for her family and friends will always be remembered.

 

Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford. At Joan’s request there will be no public visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held at St Mary’s Church, Souris on Friday June 20, 2025 at 2 pm. Interment in the church cemetery.
