Obituary of Percy Raymond Foy
Peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Sunday, May 11, 2025, the death occurred of Percy Raymond Foy. Beloved husband of Eva (Cairns) and dear Dad of Geraldine (Neil Staudinger), Sherrill (Terry Palmer) and Kimberley (Howard Martell). Percy was predeceased by his son Ronnie and Ronnie’s wife, Terry (Leal).
Born in Tryon to Emma and Maynard Foy, Percy was one of 11 children. Marrying his sweetheart at a tender age, they began their life together in Tryon on the family farm. Their next adventure took them to Charlottetown, and then building their home in Stratford, where they spent the next 52 years.
All the while, his love of Tryon and his interest in all things farming and potatoes never wavered. He soon gained the reputation for being the generous, go-to guy for all things mechanical, carpentry, and gardening cultivated a large community. These friends and neighbours became lifelong friends and part of his extended family. Never was this more apparent than this past January when celebrating his 90th birthday at Stratford Town Hall.
During rare breaks from work and service, Percy loved to camp and travel across the country to visit family. He cherished family gatherings and the big meals that came with them, especially when it finished up with one of Eva’s lemon meringue pies.
When working in the fuel business, Percy took great pride while traveling throughout the Island delivering customer service. A special time in his life was his job as a school bus driver and he cared for every one of his students like they were his own.
During this time and up until just 3 years ago, Percy and Eva ran their business, Speedy Saw Service, where he enjoyed customer interactions and formed many friendships. The shop kept him connected with other industrious, like-minded individuals. Whether in the shop, or helping others, his engineering mindset, curiosity and the joy he found in problem solving gave him purpose and served him well until his last days.
Cherished Grampy of Michael Gould (Lisa), Adam Gould, Brian Staudinger (Jen), Rob Staudiger (Janine), Aaron Staudinger (Christina), Michelle Shea (Duane), Derek Forrest, Ryan Palmer, Morgan Palmer (Keith), Jessica Palmer (Max), Aric Palmer (Julia), Bhreagh Martell (Colin), and Cayliegh Martell.
Cherished Grampy/Poppy Percy to his great-grandchildren Sebastian, Bridget, Hudson, Nash, Elsa, Beth, Adelyn, Wesley, Mackenzie, Riley, Kohen, Brealyn, Maddy, Copper, Ethan, Avery, Cora, Ash, and Myra Audrey.
He will be forever missed by his siblings Marion, Louise, Mary, Keith and Lorne, as well as his sister-in-law Doris, brother-in-law Wyman (Norma) and sister-in-law Elizabeth (Basil). Percy will also be remembered by the families of the Foy and Cairns brothers and sisters that have passed before.
Percy loved people and it showed in everything he did. There was nothing he treasured more than his friendships and family.
The family will celebrate Percy’s life with a small private service. Memorials may be made to the Stratford and Area Lions Club, Stratford.
Our very special thank you to all of his nurses and doctors at the QEH. Their care and compassion are second to none. As well, our gratitude to the many visitors and to family and friends that have reached out to us during Dad’s time at the hospital and since his passing.
