Obituary of Cornelia Francisca Maas

In the presence of family, the death occurred peacefully at Riverview Manor, Montague of Cornelia “Cora” Maas (Goeseels), formerly of Vernon River, age 102 years.  

 

Beloved mother of Jean MacPherson (David, deceased), Julius (Joan), Dimphy Elsinga (Martin, deceased), Josie MacKay (Louis), Peter (Donna) and Johnny (Barbara, deceased).  “Mom Mom” to grandchildren Deidre Smith (Ian), John David MacPherson (Marylou), Bonnie Maas, Ian Maas (Jillian), Aaron Elsinga, Curtis Elsinga (Anita), Richard MacKay (Janis), Devin MacKay (Ian), Rachel Watson (Matthew), Cory Maas (Kassia) and Haley Garland (MacKenzie).  Great-grandmother of 21 and great-great-grandmother of 1. 

 

Survived by her sister Betty Vriends and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Predeceased by her parents Jules and Dimphena (Van Gurp) Goeseels, husband Cornelius Maas, brother Peter Goeseels (Antonia), sister Catherine Rijvers (Jan), brother-in-law Arnold Vriends, sons-in-law David MacPherson and Martin Elsinga, daughter-in-law Barb Maas and great-grandson Gabriel MacPherson.

 

Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home from where visiting hours will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 4-6 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joachim’s Church, Vernon River on Friday April 25, 2025 at 10:30 am. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. Reception to follow in the church hall. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made online to the St. Joachim’s Cemetery Fund or to the Activity Program at Riverview Manor in Montague.

 

Cora’s family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Riverview Manor for their excellent care and kindness shown to Mom.
