My sincerest condolences go to Gordon’s family. He was a man of great faith and very community minded. I remember going to the bible camp that he and Azalea ran in Brule, NS. A glance at how faith, community and life experiences could all fit together. Thank you for making that experience possible. May your memories and faith help you during this difficult time

I am so profoundly saddened with the news of Gordon's passing. I loved Gordon like a father and have always had a passionate gratitude for having the chance to be close to he and his family, even if for just a short time. I rejoice that he is with the savior he so faithfully served in this life yet live with the reality that my heart will be broken for the rest of my days. I cannot put to words my love for the Matheson family that has lived and breathed in my heart every single day since since being a teenager. Gordon modelled for me how to be a man of faith in a secular culture and how to lead a household of Christ followers in these days. No man will ever live up to what Gordon Matheson was, and will still be, to me.

Our community at The Falls had the honour and privilege of hearing Rev. Gordon Matheson's sermons regularly back in the 1970's. One in particular stood out for me, which has held great meaning for me over the years; it went something like this: ...you know something about your neighbour/friend/relative they don't know you know; your neighbour/friend/relative knows something about you you don't know they know; you know something about yourself no one else knows; someone else knows something about themselves no one else knows...but God Knows Everything. (to which I will add: and loves me anyway.) Burdens were less heavy because of Rev. Matheson's presence and words. Thank you Dr. Rev. Gordon Matheson. Rest in Peace. My sincere condolences to his loving family whom we grew up with in the community. ~Barbara (Matheson) Beazley

To Angela and Family,
We were heartbroken when we heard about your grandfather, husband and dad. He was definitely a angel here on earth. We would love hear his sermons. When my grandparents (Ivan and Elmira Somers) were around all would say Dad/Gramp and Reverend Matheson are 2 amazing men. Reverend Matheson gave the best advice, shoulder to cry and lean on, and the best hugs. He will be forever loved and missed. But we know that you will be reunited someday. We will keep you in our prayers.Lots of Love Kara (Butler) Edwards and Deborah Somers

Dear Azalia, Grant , Leza and Beautiful Grandchildren,
Sending our Heartfelt condolences on the passing on your wonderful husband, father ,and grandfather.
He was one of the Greatest ,kindest, and caring men I have ever known. Attending Zion as a child and into my young adult life I have so many memories of how he impacted my life such as marrying us, baptizing the kids or when my father was very sick numerous times he was always stopping at the house or hospital , or the the time when John was in his Motor vehicle accident and there he was that night at QEH emergency it was like a angel came to be with me and as he prayed for him and with me as they wheeled him of to surgery and when dad was unable to work and mom being a stay at home with no income things were financially difficult and there he was at our door at Christmas delivering boxes of food, turkey ,treats and candy from the wonderful church family, We were so excited for those treats being so young. one of the last memories was in 2019 when I was actually sick and at hospital for a procedure and there was that angel again waiting for his sweet azalia as she too was at an appointment. We chatted ,got caught up a bit and then he gave me the Biggest hug . I will never forget it nor this Great Man I was honoured to
know. He Truly was a blessing in my life and one of the finest ministers I have ever listened too.
Thank you for Sharing your husband, father and grandfather with us all.
Huge Hugs to each of you and keep those cherished memories close to your heart

Dear Azalia, Grant, Leza, and grandchildren, Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your husband, father, and grandfather. Rev. Matheson was a well respected pillar of the Charlottetown community and he made a difference. He served as Zion’s minister, but he was well known by many in the community. Rev. Matheson started the Charlottetown Food Bank with a priest from St. Dunstan’s and their legacy lives on. Rev. Matheson served on the Board of the Old Protestant Burying Ground which is located on University Avenue in the centre of our city. He was instrumental in the restoration of this burying site of many fathers and mothers of Confederation. Rev. Matheson was well thought of by the MacRae family. I’m very sorry for your loss.
