It is with great sadness today that I came upon the passing of Carl. Although time and circumstances created distance, I have never forgotten the Docherty family. I spent many good times with Carl and his family when they lived on Leroy Avenue. I travelled quite often with Carl to Sundridge where he met Rita and spent time together before they married and had a happy life together. I have read all the tributes and Carl was exactly the kind and caring person that everyone remembered. After my father passed , Carl would often visit my mother on Linsmore Crescent to ask how she was managing . She was so thankful of those visits. I have to mention that I read Joan’s tribute and I hope she is doing well and at peace. Sincerely Ray Jolicoeur

I have such fond memories of Snarl. So many of us started on Road To Avonlea, a springboard to our careers in the film industry. I was so green in those early days. Carl guided me through and supported me during that difficult learning curve. Many nights, after a long work day, he would drive me home across the city. Of course he loved to talk and he would share many loving stories of his wife Rita. He will be greatly missed by so many of us. He will always have a place in my heart.

What a huge loss. Carl was a wonderful, talented and thoughtful gentleman. I had the pleasure of working with him for many years. Everyone near him laughed so much and heard so many great stories. My sincere condolences to you Sean and Family. Like Marcia said , I have so many ‘Schnarl’ stories, man I adored him! We spent years together on Road to Avonlea and more. My condolences to Carl's family. Our paths didn't cross often in the Toronto film industry but it was always a better day when it did. When Carl moved back east he gave me some vintage clothing pieces from his stash and also pieces that Graham had owned, I am grateful for that kindness. I'm sure there were many young costumers who benefited from his shared expertise and experience. A live well lived Carl.

Oh, this hurts my heart. My most sincere condolences to the entire family. Carl was a kind, gentle, immensely talented and hilarious soul. He taught me more than I can express about sewing, tailoring, costuming and life in the film industry and beyond. I am deeply saddened to hear this news. Carl was a wonderful friend and colleague. He joined our team at the Charlottetown Festival in 1989 and we had many years of working together here and in Toronto. Carl was an incredibly talented and skilled costumer. He was a cutter, tailor and Master Sewer. He was always an asset to the department and had the capacity to take on huge projects with diligence and perfection. He was very kind to me and a huge spirit booster, with his stories and memories. There was always a laugh to be shared. I am so sorry to hear he has left us. I loved to have telephone chats and have his advice. I even had a chance to work with his brother Graham. They were both talented and dedicated Costumers. They were from a generation of skilled and committed creators and I am so glad that I got to share space and time with them. Most of all, Carl was a wonderful human being. His work ethic, his kindness and charm , made those around him see the world as a place of beauty, to be shared and cared for.

There are people who shape the trajectory of your life through simple, quiet kindness. For me, Carl was that person. Moving from PEI to Toronto felt like a leap into the unknown, but Carl provided the solid ground I needed—he didn’t just offer me a room; he offered me a home. He was a rare blend of character: a patient mentor with a brilliant, direct sense of humor, and a man who could share a hilarious story about a Hollywood actor one moment and offer profound wisdom the next. I always admired his impeccable style, so much so that I often 'borrowed' his favorite shirts, his cologne, and that fine leather jacket. I suspect he saw it all and, in his typical grace, simply let me find my way. Carl was a truly remarkable man who left an indelible mark on my heart. I carry a profound gratitude for his silent permission and his steady presence, and my only regret is not having one last chance to say it to him directly. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with his family and all who loved him.

Carl was such a lovely kind man. Having worked with him for a number of years at the Confederation Centre we would frequently connect and enjoy our lunch outdoors. He had lots of funny stories to tell and always spoke of his grand children whom he was so proud of. I will miss him and sad that we will not meet up again. My heartfelt condolences to his family.
