There are people who shape the trajectory of your life through simple, quiet kindness. For me, Carl was that person. Moving from PEI to Toronto felt like a leap into the unknown, but Carl provided the solid ground I needed—he didn’t just offer me a room; he offered me a home.
He was a rare blend of character: a patient mentor with a brilliant, direct sense of humor, and a man who could share a hilarious story about a Hollywood actor one moment and offer profound wisdom the next. I always admired his impeccable style, so much so that I often 'borrowed' his favorite shirts, his cologne, and that fine leather jacket. I suspect he saw it all and, in his typical grace, simply let me find my way.
Carl was a truly remarkable man who left an indelible mark on my heart. I carry a profound gratitude for his silent permission and his steady presence, and my only regret is not having one last chance to say it to him directly. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with his family and all who loved him.
